HFMS Families: Students will be taking their benchmark tests this week for required WV State Testing. Please remind your student(s) to fully charge their Chromebook this evening. Students should bring a book to read (no online options during testing), wired headphones, and their Chromebook for testing each day this week. 1/11/24: Harpers Ferry Middle School staff responded to a threatening statement from one of our students today. Staff immediately contacted law enforcement, who investigated and determined the threat was NOT CREDIBLE. Any 7th or 8th grade students who are interested in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math can now apply to the Governor's STEM Institute, a free summer camp. Seventh graders are learning to unleash the power of STEM in sports at WVU and 8th graders are studying the mysteries of outer space from the Green Bank Observatory. Randomly selected eighth grade students at Harpers Ferry Middle School will participate in the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) on Tuesday, March 5. Please see the included letter for more information.
HFMS Families: We are excited to announce the return of National Junior Honor Society to Harpers Ferry Middle School! Students interested in joining the HFMS chapter of National Junior Honor Society should see Mrs. Barker Wednesday, January 10th, during 4th period for an informational meeting and to pick up an application. Applications are due on Friday, February 2nd. Late applications will not be considered.

Students in Ms. Kowalski's 7th Grade Social Studies classes excavated Terracotta soldiers as part of their Ancient China Unit. Students enjoyed "digging out" the soldiers. Ms. Kowalski was able to provide this opportunity to her classes due to a grant she received.
Students in Ms. Kern's WV History classes are having daily visits from JJ, their West Virginia Elf. JJ has been teaching them about the different activities and places in West Virginia through his shenanigans. Below see JJ attend a WVU game, participate in the grand opening of Tudor's, ride on the Cass Scenic Railroad, go rafting with a special guide, parachute from the New River Gorge and go trail riding at the Hatfield-McCoy Trails.
HFMS Families: Please help us to congratulate our FFA team for their exciting placements at the State FFA event this week. We had two teams that place 5th and 1st overall. Our first place team also consisted of individual winners, Maddie McDonald-tied for 4th place, Julie Athey-2nd place, and Monica Fernandes-1st place! Congratulations to Taylor, Cali, Abigail, Brooke, Maddie, Maddie, Julie, Monica, and Ms. Hargis! We are so proud of you all!
HFMS Families: Jefferson High School is holding a scheduling information meeting for parents of 8th grade students attending JHS on Wednesday, December 6 at 6:00pm in the JHS Auditorium.
