HFMS Students Hold Shields

Harpers Ferry, W.Va. — Students at Harpers Ferry Middle School are learning about Ancient Greece through marching and movement. Ms. Alyson Whitacre, 7th grade Social Studies teacher and History Bowl coach, planned an exciting way for her students to learn about the many aspects of Ancient Greece during the Classical Period. Students learned about citizen soldiers, called hoplites, by creating their own hoplon (shield) to represent a city-state of Greece.
